Indian captain Virat Kohli hit the nets on Sunday (January 9) in Cape Town to indicate he has overcome his troubles with an upper back spasm that forced him to miss the second Test in Johannesburg, with KL Rahul leading the side in his absence.

Kohli, who is one of just four captains to win 40 or more Test matches, was missed by the visitors as South Africa levelled the series 1-1 with a 7-wicket win chasing 240 courtesy Dean Elgar's gutsy 96*.

Head coach Rahul Dravid had indicated Kohli's return for the all-important match at Newlands where India has never beaten South Africa in a Test match and will look to set that record right and win their first-ever Test series in South Africa.

"Virat Kohli should be fine from all accounts, he should be fine. He has had the opportunity to run around a little bit, he has had the opportunity to test it a little bit," Dravid had said during a virtual press conference.

If Kohli is passed fit, Hanuma Vihari is likely to make way after veterans Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane scored fifties in the second innings at Wanderers to give themselves another shot at regaining form and shutting down the critics.

BCCI posted few pictures from the training session of the Indian team at the iconic venue as the visitors kickstarted their preparations for the crucial match starting on January 11.
