SA v IND 2021-22: WATCH- ‘Keep your mouth shut'- Pant and Van der Dussen's heated argument over catch controversy

Vd Dussen had been caught by Pant though the catch was a controversial one.

Rassie van der Dussen was out caught by Rishabh Pant | TwitterRishabh Pant and Rassie van der Dussen were caught by the stump mic bantering over the catch controversy that happened on the second day of the ongoing second Test match between India and South Africa at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

Van der Dussen was adjudged caught behind by the on-field umpire at the stroke of tea interval off the bowling of Shardul Thakur. Van der Dussen inside-edged the ball into his pads and into the gloves of Pant. The batter walked off without questioning the decision or the catch.

However, during the break, multiple replays from different angles showed contradicting results. The front replay suggested that the ball might have bounced in front of Pant before landing in his gloves. The side on replays showed that the catch was clean.

On-air commentators Mike Haysman and Sunil Gavaskar discussed the same, with the former India captain saying that if there was something, van der Dussen should not have walked. It was also reported that Proteas captain Dean Elgar and team manager Khomotso Masubelele met with the match officials to discuss the dismissal, but the decision stood.

Van der Dussen apparently said something to Rishabh Pant related to the controversial catch as he was taking guard at the end of the 38th over. The stump mic caught Pant saying, “If you have half knowledge, then keep your mouth shut”.

Meanwhile, Pant was dismissed for a duck in the Indian second innings as the visitors’ lead surged past the 200-run mark.
