SA v IND 2021-22: Bumrah gets vice-captaincy for second Test; Iyer ruled out due to stomach bug

India's fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been named as vice-captain for the second Test against South Africa after captain Virat Kohli got ruled out due to an upper back spasm. KL Rahul is leading the Indian cricket team in the absence of Kohli.

Hanuma Vihari replaced Kohli in the batting line-up for the second Test, however, it was Ajinkya Rahane who came out to bat at number four. Currently, the visitors are ahead in the series after winning the first Test by 113 runs in Centurion.

"Team India Captain Mr Virat Kohli had a spasm on his upper back this morning. He won't feature in the second Test against South Africa at The Wanderers. 

"The BCCI medical team will be monitoring him during the course of this Test match. KL Rahul will captain the side in his absence," stated BCCI Secretary Jay Shah in an official BCCI release.

Even Shreyas Iyer was ruled out from the second Test due to a stomach bug, confirmed the the All-India Senior Selection Committee. 

Rahul won the toss ahead of the second Test and chose to bat first. India haven't started well in the first innings as they lost the important wickets of Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ajinkya Rahane before the lunch break. They were struggling at 53/3 at lunch with Rahul and Hanuma Vihari in the middle.
