India's off-spinner R Ashwin spotted an error during Day 4's play of the first Test between India and South Africa at the SuperSport Park. Ashwin found out that the ball given to India was not the one they picked ahead of South Africa's second innings.

"We didn’t pick the ball," said Ashwin brought it up to the umpires, and soon Indian captain Virat Kohli joined him in the chat with the officials. The umpires brought out the set of new balls and India soon found the right one.

Ashwin was accompanied by Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj along with Kohli while they had a look at the new Kookaburra balls. It was Jasprit Bumrah who started the second innings for India with the new ball.

Former Australian cricketer and commentator Mike Haysman called it bizarre on-air. He said, “This is bizarre”, before ex-South African all-rounder Shaun Pollock replied, "This is for deep cricket enthusiasts”.

Pollock revealed his former teammate Jacques Kallis used to make fun of the pace bowlers for taking a close look before selecting the right ball. “Let me tell you we always picked a good lemon particularly in South Africa,” said Pollock when asked out how many times he failed to pick a good new ball.

Indian cricket team set a target of 305 runs in the first Test match and they had picked up four wickets of South Africa for 94 runs at the end of Day 4's play.
