Jasprit Bumrah proved once again why he is such a special bowler for the Indian team as he broke a stubborn partnership and then removed a batter who could have proved to be difficult to dislodge.

India set South Africa 305 runs to win the first Test match in Centurion after they were bowled out for 174 runs with Rishabh Pant top-scoring with 34 runs. KL Rahul with 23 and Ajinkya Rahane with 20 were other run-getters, while Virat Kohli fell for 18 runs in the same method of dismissal.

Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen picked four wickets each, while Lungi Ngidi added two more scalps to his first-innings six-fer.

In reply, Mohammad Shami clean bowled Aiden Markram for one run to give India a perfect start. Then Mohammed Siraj dismissed Keegan Petersen for 17, as he started to look set.

However, the most stubborn partnership of the innings thus far came when Dean Elgar and Rassie van der Dussen (11 in 65 balls) came together.

It was getting a bit frustrating when Kohli threw the ball to Bumrah and the right-arm pacer showed some magic as he set up van der Dussen brilliantly. He bowled one delivery which left him from the length and bowled the next one which jagged back in sharply and hit his off-stump.

Keshav Maharaj came in as nightwatchman and it looked like South Africa will go back at the end of the day three wickets down. But Bumrah bowled the perfect yorker to knock Maharaj’s leg stump and give India the upper hand as Proteas ended the 4th day on 94/4.
