IRE v IND 2023: WATCH- Mix up between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad sees Ireland squandering golden run out chance

Ireland was asked to bat first and posted 139/7 in 20 overs.

Ruturaj and Jaiswal were at the same end, but Ireland let go of a golden chance | XIndia and Ireland are clashing in the first T20I of the three-match series on August 18, 2023, in Malahide, Dublin. This series also marks the return of Jasprit Bumrah to international cricket after 11 months away due to a stress fracture of back.

He is also captaining the Indian team on this tour and started his T20I captaincy well by winning the toss and choosing to bat. Rinku Singh and Prasidh Krishna made their T20I debuts for India.

Bumrah gave India a brilliant start picking two wickets in the very first over. Ireland found themselves in further trouble as debutant Prasidh Krishna picked two wickets as well, the hosts were reduced to 59/6 at one stage.

Then Curtis Campher (39) and Barry McCarthy (51*) added 57 runs for the seventh wicket and propelled Ireland to 139/7 in 20 overs.

India opened with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad and the duo added 46 runs for the first wicket in powerplay overs. However, the duo’s unfamiliarity with one another was evident as it almost cost India a wicket in the second over itself.

Jaiswal had nudged Josh Little behind square on the leg side and took off for a run with Gaikwad calling. However, Gaikwad paused in the middle and turned around with Jaiswal running through and making the ground at the non-striker’s end.

In the meantime, the throw at the bowler’s end missed the stumps with both batters at the same end. Ruturaj Gaikwad then tried to dash to the batting end as the fielder tried to hurry the ball to the keeper.

However, a wayward throw helped Gaikwad, who dove to save his wicket and made it in time.
