India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is all set to make his much-anticipated comeback to the national team during the T20I tour of Ireland.
The right-arm quick has been away from international cricket for almost a year now. He missed the Asia Cup 2022, the T20 World Cup 2022 and the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season due to a recurring back injury.
Bumrah will lead the Indian side in the three-match T20I series, starting August 18. All the games will be played in Dublin.
Ahead of the series opener, former India opener Robin Uthappa has said that it would be interesting to see how Jasprit Bumrah performs as a captain.
“I think it's interesting. He has got leadership skills and he could go on to become our Test captain, too, because he is a pretty shrewd strategist as well. But, he has got the opportunity to do that here apart from making a comeback. It will be interesting to see how he'll go about it,” Uthappa said on JioCinema.
Bumrah is all set to become India’s 11th men’s T20I captain. He has already led the country in Test cricket. The ace pacer was named the captain of the team for a rescheduled Test match against England at Edgbaston last year after Rohit Sharma tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Uthappa said the Indian fans are praying for Bumrah to go injury-free in the three-match T20I series against Ireland.
"I expect Bumrah to go injury-free this series and stay completely healthy. I think that's what every Indian supporter would want from him. He should just feel like himself again and that would augur really well for the Indian team," he stated.
Jasprit Bumrah will be keen to prove his match fitness in the T20I series. He remains a key player across formats and India would hope that the speedster returns to his very best ahead of the forthcoming Asia Cup and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
