The Indian team is set to play a two-match series in Ireland in the next few days under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy. The selectors have gone for a young team for the forthcoming tour. However, with only two matches to take place, many people have questioned the possibility of including these many first-timers, who might not get to play in the series.
The majority of the Ireland team may travel to England to play in the white ball series, according to rumors circulating in the Indian media.
Speaking about it, former Indian women’s team coach WV Raman said that the Ireland tour team visiting England to play the T20Is would be a wonderful idea.
In an interaction, Raman told News24 Sports, "I feel it is a good idea because how many chances can you give in two matches. So if they play the same team in another series, you will be able to give more chances. It is better to give four chances to a boy instead of two."
"It will be very good if they keep the same team for continuity because you will have to see what everyone can do, so that when you select the team for the World Cup you have a good idea about them if the same team plays in the England series as well," he added.
Throughout the recently concluded T20I series against South Africa, India decided to stick with the same lineup, which prevented many new players from having an opportunity to shine. Venkatesh Iyer and Umran Malik have received support from Raman to play in Ireland.
"This is a great opportunity to give chances to new players and those who have not got too many chances in the last one year. You can play Umran Malik, you can also play Venkatesh Iyer in the XI."
India will play the first game against Ireland on June 26. The match will start at 9 PM IST.
