Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir is unhappy with their players as they were unable to take Hardik Pandya's catch as well their inability to hold their nerves at the death in the last over, which proved crucial in determining the course of the last night's Indian Premier League match. Â
Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians registered a four-wicket win against KKR in the exciting IPL game at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.
After winning the toss, Gambhir has chosen to bat first and collected 178/7 while the hosts logged full points by scoring 180/6 in 19.5 overs in response to the visitors total.
The KKR skipper heaped praise on Hardik Pandya (29 not out of 11 balls) and the man of the match Nitish Rana (50 of 29 balls) for playing the mind-boggling innings. The duo played a blitz 41 run partnership off only 14 balls for the sixth wicket, which helped the hosts to win the home game.
Gambhir said, "We put a good score on the board in the last three overs. But Hardik and Rana played unbelievable innings. If we'd taken Hardik's catch, anything might have happened."
In the fourth delivery of the final over, Gambhir also rued to given the lifeline to Pandya by Rishi Dhawan, who could not get near a top edge from the all-rounder on the dewy turf.
He said that the Wankhede ground didn't make any support to the spinners as there was a bit of dew on the ground. Gambhir also said the KKR players panicked a little at the end. He added, "It's just a matter of keeping our nerves calm. We panicked a little in the end with the midfield and the dropped catch."
