Karnataka batsman Mayank Agarwal was seen playing for a different franchise in IPL 2017. In the domestic T20 tournament, he was the leading run-scorer and that might be the reason that he has been signed by Rising Pune Supergiants. Ahead of the first match against Mumbai Indians, Mayank shared his thoughts on the season and his goals for the next six weeks.
When asked about his thoughts for IPL 2017, Mayank replied, "I am extremely excited about playing in IPL 2017. This season, I will be turning out for Rising Pune Supergiant. The RPSG dressing room has several outstanding players and some very experienced individuals among the coaching staff. I look forward to being a part of the dressing room and contributing to the team's success in the coming weeks."
Talking about the confidence Mayank has got from his performances in domestic shorter format tournaments, he said, "I am very confident heading into this IPL; having runs behind your back always helps. It was good to score runs in domestic cricket in the lead up to the IPL, as it gives you a reality check on where you stand and where you need to improve as a cricketer."
Mayank has not only performed in shorter formats in domestic tournaments, but he was also the second-highest run scorer in the Duleep Trophy. Talking about his efforts in these tournaments in the last domestic season, Mayank said that he had worked continuously on the technical aspects of his game.
He also acknowledged that succeeding in the three formats is the need of the hour, and that requires the change of mindset and approach. He also added that learning meditation has helped him immensely.
Mayank concluded by talking about his goals in the tenth season of IPL, he said, "Over the next couple of days, I will interact with the team management and learn about the role they have penned down for me in the team's scheme of things. The goal is to be successful as a team; I will play the role assigned to me and hope my contributions will lead to RPSG being a successful team."
