Ahead of the T20I series against West Indies, Team India have suffered a setback as spinning all-rounder Washington Sundar has been reportedly ruled out of the shortest format fixtures due to a hamstring injury.
Sundar made his international comeback in the ODI series against West Indies after an extended injury-forced hiatus, but he will now require a few weeks to recover.
According to a Cricbuzz report, Sundar has Grade 1 hamstring injury and he will have to report at the NCA on Tuesday (February 15). The 22-year-old will need to spend three weeks at the NCA in Bangalore.
Apparently, Sundar has left the Indian camp that is currently in Kolkata for the T20I series, due to get underway on February 16.
Meanwhile, the Chetan Sharma-led selection panel is unlikely to announce a replacement for Sundar because of bio-security protocols.
Washington Sundar is the third Indian player to be ruled out of the upcoming T20I series after KL Rahul and Akshar Patel.
While Rahul picked up a hamstring injury in the second ODI against West Indies last week, Akshar is undergoing rehabilitation after recovering from COVID-19.
