IND v WI 2022: Washington Sundar ruled out of the T20I series; Kuldeep Yadav named replacement

T20I series between India and West Indies will begin from 16th February in Kolkata.

Team India suffered a major blow as all-rounder Washington Sundar was ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against West Indies. The Tamil Nadu player suffered a left hamstring injury while fielding during the third ODI against the West Indies at Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday (11th February).

BCCI’s All-India Senior Selection Committee on Monday (14th February) announced Kuldeep Yadav as his replacement for the T20I series. The three-match series will be played from 16th to 20th February at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

BCCI confirmed the same by releasing the official statement. The governing body stated: 

“All-rounder Washington Sundar suffered a left hamstring muscle strain during fielding in the third ODI against the West Indies played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday. 

“He is ruled out of the upcoming three-match Paytm T20I Series to be played in Kolkata from 16th February. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Kuldeep Yadav as Washington’s replacement,” BCCI stated in its media release. 

Notably, Washington Sundar made his comeback for Team India in the ODI series against West Indies after an extended period of injury and later COVID-19. 

Earlier, KL Rahul and Akshar Patel were also ruled out of the upcoming T20I series. While the white-ball vice-captain suffered a hamstring injury in the second ODI against West Indies, the all-rounder is undergoing rehabilitation after recovering from COVID-19.
