West Indies' stand-in skipper Nicholas Pooran expressed his disappointment after the 44-run defeat against India in the second ODI at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on February 9.

West Indies suffered a disappointing loss against India and went down 0-2 in the three-match ODI series.

Bowling first, after winning the toss, the visitors displayed a sensational bowling effort and restricted the Rohit Sharma-led side to a total of just 237 runs. It was expected that they would chase the target easily and would level the series.

But their batting once again let them down and they were reduced to 76/5 at the end of 22 overs.

Shamarah Brooks, Akeal Hosein, and Odean Smith kept the visitors in the hunt, but Prasidh Krishna’s amazing haul of 4/12 and combined efforts of other India bowlers, resulted in the visitors being bundled out for just 190 runs.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, skipper Nicholas Pooran admitted that his side didn’t build enough partnerships and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. He said that they need to continue to be aggressive and revealed that regular skipper Kieron Pollard will be back for the last ODI on February 11.

Pooran said: “With the bat, we didn't build partnerships. We kept losing wickets at regular intervals. In the 39th over, we lost Fabian first and then Hosein in the very next. We need to continue to be aggressive. Pollard is a tough and big guy and should be back."

He further lauded Odean Smith for his all-around performance, saying that sky is the limit for him. He added that they did a good job with the ball and was hopeful of doing the same in the final game.

“Smith is a strong guy. He is a little inexperienced but sky is the limit for him. We did a good job with the ball and hopefully, we can do the same in the final game. And also do better with the bat," Nicholas Pooran added.

The dead-rubber third ODI between India and West Indies will be played on Friday (11th February) at the same venue.
