India will play its 1000th ODI when it takes field vs WI on February 6 | GettyThe Indian squad which arrived in Ahmedabad the other day, began practice at the Narendra Modi Stadium, barring the quartet of Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, and Navdeep Saini, who tested positive for COVID-19.

The remainder of the squad began light training in the stadium after their RT-PCR tests came negative on Thursday.

Opener Mayank Agarwal joined the squad but is in three-day quarantine which ends on February 6, the day of the first ODI between India and the West Indies.

However, the team management has also added keeper-opener Ishan Kishan to the ODI squad as well as KL Rahul will not be available for the first ODI, leaving Rohit Sharma with no opening partner.

"Today is a light session where the players have been accompanied by trainers," a veteran official in know of things told PTI.

Apart from the players, three staff members including fielding coach T Dilip tested positive for the virus and as per Indian government guidelines, will have to isolate for seven days.

The series starts in Ahmedabad on February 6 with India's 1000th ODI match but it is now a foregone conclusion that the trio – Dhawan, Ruturaj, and Shreyas -- will be missing the series as they will have to undergo week-long isolation and then return with two negative RT-PCR tests.
