Former India batter Virat Kohli had the Thiruvananthapuram crowd at his feet in the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka, as he unleashed his beast mode on January 15, 2023.
India posted a huge total of 390/5 in 50 overs and the foundation was laid by Rohit Sharma (42) and Shubman Gill who added 95 runs for the first wickets. Shubman Gill completed his second ODI century, scoring 116 in 97 balls with 14 fours and 2 sixes to his name.
He also added 131 runs with Virat Kohli, who himself plundered runs against hapless Sri Lankan bowlers. He continued the onslaught with Shreyas Iyer (38) after Gill got out and when Iyer was dismissed, single-handedly pushed India to a huge total.
He made 166* in 110 balls with 13 fours and 8 sixes to his name.
Kohli got unanimous applause from all quarters but special praise came from his wife Anushka Sharma, who posted a story on her Instagram account with the caption reading: “What a guy!”.
Talking about applause, the cricket fraternity also bowed down to the genius of Virat Kohli who scored his third century in four ODIs.
