India opener Shubman Gill continued his excellent form with the bat in ODIs as he notched up his second century in the 50-over format in the third and final ODI of the series against Sri Lanka underway at Thiruvananthapuram on January 15, 2023.
India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first with the Men in Blue making two changes. Umran Malik and Hardik Pandya were rested with Washington Sundar and Suryakumar Yadav coming in.
Sri Lanka also made changes as Jeffrey Vandersay and Ashen Bandara came in for Dunith Wellalage and Dhananjaya de Silva respectively.
India started cautiously but then got on to run-making mode as Rohit Sharma made 42 in 49 balls with him adding 95 runs for the first wicket in 15.2 overs. Then Shubman Gill got the experienced Virat Kohli to guide him as the young opener played some sublime shots in his knock.
He brought up his 50 in 52 balls with 8 fours and continued to soldier on and got his second ODI hundred off 89 balls with 11 fours and 2 sixes. Gill was finally dismissed by Kasun Rajitha for 116 runs in 97 balls with 14 fours and 2 sixes.
He had added 131 runs for the second wicket with Virat Kohli and celebrated his century with a high-five in the middle of the run which brought him the milestone.
