IND v SL 2023: WATCH- Akshar Patel’s amazing diving catch off Umran Malik ends Karunaratne’s innings

Akshar Patel took two catches off Umran Malik in the match | BCCIThe second ODI between India and Sri Lanka got underway at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata with the hosts leading the three-ODI series 1-0 with a 67-run win in the first ODI in Guwahati.

Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and chose to bowl first. The visitors made two changes as Nuwanidu Fernando made his ODI debut coming in place of Pathum Nissanka and Lahiru Kumara came in for injured Dilshan Madushanka.

India, on the other hand, brought in Kuldeep Yadav in place of Yuzvendra Chahal who had a niggle.

Mohammed Siraj gave India the first breakthrough as he bowled Avishka Fernando for 20 runs and then Kuldeep Yadav ended Kusal Mendis’ innings at 34 runs after he had added 73 runs for the second wicket with Nuwanidu. He also picked wickets of Charith Asalanka (15) and Shanaka (2) as well, finishing with 3/51.

Akshar Patel gave India the third wicket when he bowled Dhananjaya de Silva for a duck, while Nuwanidu completed a maiden ODI fifty on his debut and got run out soon after.

Umran Malik bowled fast and got two wickets as well, both caught by Akshar Patel at point. The first one was Wanindu Hasaranga (21) and the second was Chamika Karunaratne (17).

However, Karunaratne’s catch by Akshar Patel was an excellent one as he had to dive full length as the ball was traveling quickly and he was airborne when he plucked the ball in the air.
