IND v SL 2023: WATCH- Confusion on Umran Malik’s fastest ball as Hindi and English broadcasts show different speeds

IND v SL 2023: WATCH- Confusion on Umran Malik’s fastest ball as Hindi and English broadcasts show different speeds

Umran Malik has the fastest delivery in T20Is by an Indian at 155 kph.

Umran Malik | BCCIUmran Malik was on fire with the ball in India’s win in the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Guwahati on Tuesday, January 10. He picked three wickets and was bowling at lightning speeds as India won the match by 67 runs going 1-0 up in the three-match series.

His name trended across social media on Tuesday night thanks to his thunderbolt ball which clocked 156kph with which he broke his own record for the fastest delivery by an India bowler. This delivery was bowled on the fourth ball of his second over, which was the 14th over of Sri Lanka's chase.

But it might not be credited to him as Hindi and English broadcasts have created massive confusion as they showed different speeds for the same delivery.

IND v SL 2023: “My preparation and intent always remain same,” says Virat Kohli after his match-winning ton in 1st ODI

The Hindi broadcast did not show anything on the speed gun, visible at the bottom of the screen when Umran bowled the fourth ball of the over. But later, when the speeds of each delivery of that over, which marked the fourth ball to be 156 kph.

But in the English broadcast, the same delivery was clocked at 145 kph.

Check it out here:

Malik ended the over by getting Charith Asalanka out on the last ball, having him caught behind by KL Rahul. He finished with 3/57 in his 8 overs.

Now if it was indeed 156 kph then Umran now owns the record for the fastest delivery by an Indian in T20Is, ODIs and in the IPL as well. His fastest ball in T20Is is 155 kph, which also came against Sri Lanka 6 nights back. While in the IPL, his fastest delivery was clocked at 157 kph.
