IND v SL 2023: Wasim Jaffer wants Shubman Gill to be dropped from India's XI for in-form batter in 3rd T20I

Shubman Gill failed to deliver in the first two T20Is against Sri Lanka.

Shubman Gill finally got the opportunity to show his talent to the world in T20I cricket after a long wait, but the young Indian opener failed to impress.

Gill was given the opportunity in the first two T20Is against Sri Lanka, but the right-hander left everyone disappointed by scoring only 7 and 5 runs.

Ahead of the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka to be played in Rajkot on Saturday (January 7), former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer made a bold statement that Gill should be dropped from the playing XI for the series decider following his two poor outings in Mumbai and Pune.

Jaffer believes that Ruturaj Gaikwad should play in the T20I series decider against Sri Lanka in Rajkot on Saturday, given his recent performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he scored four hundreds, including a double century, in just five 50-over matches.

Wasim Jaffer said on ESPNCricinfo: “I think Ruturaj Gaikwad should get a chance. He has scored a lot of runs (in domestic cricket). He was outstanding in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Shubman Gill, on the other hand, hasn't been in great touch in the previous two matches. He has been disappointing. I will be tempted to play Ruturaj Gaikwad. He has been warming the benches for quite some time now.”

He added, “In the bowling department, I will back Arshdeep Sinch even though he had a forgetful day (in the 2nd T20I). You need to back him in this situation so that his confidence doesn't take a further hit. Apart from the one change in the batting department, I don't see any other changes in the XI.”
