India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant's name was missing in both the squads for the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka as the BCCI selection committee on Tuesday (December 27) announced the team.

Pant's recent form in white-ball cricket, particularly in T20Is, has not been very good and with his name missing and no official statement provided by the board on his absence, it was assumed by many including cricket expert Harsha Bhogle that he had been dropped from the white-ball sides.

But as per a PTI report and journalist Arani Basu, Pant will miss the six white-ball games against Sri Lanka due to a knee issue which has been troubling him since some time. He has reportedly been asked to head to the National Cricket Academy for two weeks to undergo strengthening session for his knee.

Hardik Pandya will lead India in the three-match T20I series, while Rohit Sharma was named the captain for the three ODIs against Sri Lanka.

Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson will be the wicketkeeper-batters for India in the T20Is, with the former and KL Rahul doing the duties in ODIs.
