Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant admitted to making a few mistakes in the past but emphasized that he has been learning from them and improving with each Test match.
The left-hander smashed 96, 39, and 50 in the two-match Test series to win the Player of the Series award as Team India completed a 2-0 sweep against Sri Lanka after winning the day-night Test by 238 runs inside 3 days in Bengaluru on March 14, Monday.
Notably, he is India's highest run-getter in Test cricket since the start of 2021, with 1077 runs at an average of 43.08 and at a staggering rate of 71.89. He smashed two centuries and seven fifties.
However, the youngster was often targeted for losing his wicket due to his rash shot selection and he defended this approach by saying there was nothing wrong with his mindset.
Pant said after the day-night Test against Sri Lanka, “I think both batting and wicketkeeping, you need to keep evolving, I've made mistakes in the past and want to keep improving. It's not in my mindset, the wicket was difficult to play, so I thought I will look for quick runs.”
On being asked about his batting position in Test cricket, the young wicketkeeper said: “I'll do whatever the team management wants me to do.”
Pant has shown his incredibly improved wicket keeping, as he was involved in 3 stumpings and 2 catches against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.
He signed off by saying, “I think it's more about confidence. I used to think too much about what I might miss. Now I am focusing on my process.”
