Shreyas Iyer was outstanding in his very first day-night Test, as the Indian batter smashed two fifties under the lights at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in the second and final Test against Sri Lanka.

Since the day-night Test matches are not played much, it is challenging for the players to play under lights with a pink ball, but things weren't the same for Shreyas Iyer in Bengaluru.

The right-hander made a superb 98-ball 92 in the first innings, while he managed 67 in the second innings, playing a key role in Team India’s 238-run win over Sri Lanka in the day-night Test to clean sweep the home series 2-0.

Iyer said in the post-match press conference: “That wasn't my normal approach but when I saw other batters struggling, I knew I had to attack. I was just trying to be one step of the bowlers. When the tail came in, I was on 55 and I added 37 more, so I wasn't too bothered about missing out on a hundred.”

The 27-year-old, who was adjudged "Player of the Match" for his batting show, said that the hosts were given a target and he was just looking to play as many balls as possible, as he smashed 67 to take India’s second innings total to 303 for 9 against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.

Iyer signed off by saying, “We were given a target, and I was in the mindset to play as many balls as possible. I have always dreamt about being a Test player for India and playing alongside the greats and contributing at the highest level. I hope I can maintain that consistency in the time to come.”
