IND v SL 2022: WATCH - Virat Kohli gestures to the Mohali fans to make noise; the crowd reciprocates

IND v SL 2022: WATCH - Virat Kohli gestures to the Mohali fans to make noise; the crowd reciprocates

India have been very dominant in the first Test at Mohali.

Virat Kohli gestures to the Mohali crowd | BCCI

Former Team India captain Virat Kohli always enjoyed a great relationship with crowds during his immensely successful captaincy tenure, particularly in Test cricket in India. Whenever he felt his bowlers and fielders needed some energy to feed upon, he egged on the fans to make noise.

No longer captain, that habit hasn't still gone away for Kohli, as he was seen gesturing to the crowd at Mohali to make some noise when Sri Lanka had a partnership going between Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva during the second innings.

Playing his 100th Test match for India, Kohli scored 45 runs in the first innings and is unlikely to bat again in this match with India just two wickets away from an innings victory at the time of writing this. India took a massive lead of 400 runs in the first innings and captain Rohit Sharma enforced the follow-on looking for an early finish.

Coming back to the crowds, BCCI had initially declared the match would be played behind closed doors due to COVID-19 concerns, but then decided to allow 50% capacity to let the fans come to the ground and support Virat Kohli in his 100th Test.

The second Test of the two-match series will be played with the pink ball in Bengaluru from March 12, Kohli's second home due to his long association with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise in Indian Premier League (IPL).
