India vice-captain and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah's old bad habit of bowling too many no-balls once again costed him and the Indian team a wicket on the second day of the first Test in Mohali.

Bumrah, who is playing just his third Test at home, was in the middle of a brilliant second spell when in the 32nd over of the innings, he completely deceived Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka with a slower delivery to get him clean bowled. But much to his disappointment, the dreaded siren was sounded off at the ground as the third umpire had spotted that he had overstepped the line.

He had something to celebrate later when he trapped Angelo Mathews leg-before-wicket before stumps on the second day.

The fast bowler has previously too lost out on wickets due to no-balls, with the most famous instance being the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final, when he gave a life to Fakhar Zaman of Pakistan, who went on to score a big hundred and won the title for his country.

Bumrah, captain Rohit Sharma and rest of the team members were left disappointed on the field just when they had begun to celebrate the bowler's mastery, and even head coach Rahul Dravid seemed agitated for a moment after the incident before he resigned to the fate of that delivery.

Nissanka is still unbeaten on 26 as Sri Lanka were 108/4, still needing 267 more runs to avoid the follow-on mark, while they trail India by 466 runs overall in the first innings. Much will depend on the young batter if the visitors want to compete in this Test with the pitch likely to get difficult for batting.
