IND v SL 2022: Rohit Sharma will feel confident as Test captain- Ajit Agarkar says runs in England will help him lead

India's newly appointed Test skipper Rohit Sharma, who would be leading the team for the first time when he walks out for the toss in the first Test of the two-match series against Sri Lanka, which begins on March 4 in Mohali. 

His fellow Mumbaikar and former India teammate Ajit Agarkar said that he believes that Rohit will be confident when he captains the Indian team for the first time in Tests.

When asked about Rohit as Test skipper, Agarkar told Star Sports: "Firstly, it will be a huge honor for him. Yeah, he has led India for a few games in white-ball cricket, not just as full-time captain but before as well."

Furthermore, Agarkar said that getting runs in England Tests overseas where Rohit scored 368 runs in 4 Tests, including a hundred and 2 fifties, will give him immense confidence that he can lead from the front.

"The one thing that will do him good is the series that he had in England. The batting would have given him a lot of faith. As a leader, you want to be one of the better players in the team so that you can demand things from other people. Plus, he has got the necessary experience in terms of captaincy," he added.

Also, the former India pacer thinks that the presence of a strong Indian squad and familiar conditions would ease the pressure on Rohit if there is any.

He said: "Test cricket will be a bit different but at least he is starting in India where the conditions are familiar. It's a very strong squad that India has, I don't think it will be a problem for him."

Also coincidentally, Rohit Sharma's first Test as India skipper will also be Virat Kohli's 100th Test match for the country. And now, with fans being allowed inside the Mohali stadium, it would surely be even more of an exciting prospect for Indian crickets' fans.
