Ex-India batter Wasim Jaffer shared his views on Sanju Samson, who was given an opportunity in the recently concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka. Samson got to bat in the last two T20Is and scored a total of 57 runs.
Although Samson couldn't get a big score, he did manage to get a start in both innings. In the second T20I, he got out after scoring 25-ball 39 runs and later 18 off 12 balls in the final T20I.
Jaffer wasn't too pleased with Samson letting go of such chances and not converting it into notable knocks. He has a lot of confidence in the Kerala batter and his abilities.
"He obviously hasn't grabbed his opportunities. Yesterday (Saturday) and today (Sunday)'s game was a good, good opportunity for him to stake his claim as a third wicketkeeping option or as a batter," Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo.
"He shows a lot of promise, he does show the glimpse of what he can do but just doesn't take the opportunity that other guys have taken. So I really feel sad because I think he's got a lot to offer in this format especially," he added.
Jaffer considers him in the T20 World Cup 2022 set-up of Team India for now and opined, "But I think he's definitely in the scheme of things. I don't think this Indian team setup will mind that he's got the 30s but they would definitely see that he's around for sure."
