Team India registered a crushing seven-wicket victory over South Africa in the third and final ODI at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday (October 11).
Invited to bat first, the Proteas got bowled out for a meager 99 in 27.1 overs. It was a listless batting performance as most of them fell for a single-digit score. Heinrich Klaasen was the top scorer with 34 from 42 balls.
Mohammed Siraj (2-17), Washington Sundar (2-15) and Shahbaz Ahmed (2-32) wreaked havoc on South Africa’s top and middle order by taking two wickets each while Kuldeep Yadav (4-18) ran through the lower order.
Chasing the paltry target, the hosts rode on Shubman Gill’s 57-ball 49 and Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten 28 off 23 balls to get over the line with 30.5 overs to spare.
With this victory, the Men in Blue bagged the three-match ODI series 2-1. The Shikhar Dhawan-led young side bounced back to clinch the series after losing the first ODI in Lucknow.
For their emphatic performance in the series-decider, Indian bowlers received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
