The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday (October 8) confirmed that seamer Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series against South Africa due to stiffness in his back.
Chahar wasn't a part of the Indian playing XI in the first ODI, which the Shikhar Dhawan-led side lost by 9 runs in Lucknow on October 6.
For the last two ODIs, the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee has named Washington Sundar as replacement for Deepak Chahar.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee named Washington Sundar as replacement for Deepak Chahar for the remainder of the ODI series against South Africa. Mr. Chahar had a stiffness in his back after the third and final T20I against South Africa in Indore and did not feature in India’s Playing XI in the first ODI in Lucknow,” BCCI said in its official release.
Chahar will now check into the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.
“He will now head back to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and will be monitored by the Medical Team there,” the board added.
India will play the second ODI in Ranchi on October 9, followed by the last match in New Delhi on October 11.
India’s revised ODI squad: Shikhar Dhawan (Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), Rajat Patidar, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Shahbaz Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar.
