IND v SA 2022: WATCH- Deepak Chahar almost runs out Tristan Stubbs at non-striker’s end before warning him

Chahar gave Stubbs a warning instead of running him out.

Deepak Chahar and Tristan Stubbs | Twitter ScreengrabIndia and South Africa are playing in the third T20I of the 3-match series in Indore’s Holkar Stadium. The hosts have already pocketed the series by winning the first two matches.

India rested Virat Kohli and KL Rahul ahead of this match and Rohit Sharma, who won the toss and chose to bowl first, revealed that Arshdeep Singh had suffered a back niggle and hence missed this match.

Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw hit the Indian bowlers to all parts, despite Temba Bavuma falling for 3 runs. De Kock made 68 runs in 43 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes and added 89 runs with Rossouw for the second wicket.

After De Kock got runout, South Africa promoted Tristan Stubbs up the order and he teed off instantly.

Something interesting happened at the start of the 16th ball, as Chahar ran into bowl, he saw Tristan Stubbs way out of his crease at the non-striker’s end. Chahar stopped and mockingly tried to hit the stumps and glared at Stubbs giving him a warning of sorts, but didn’t run him out.

This was interesting as recently a lot of noise was made when Deepti Sharma ran out England’s Charlie Dean in the final ODI between India women and England women at Lord’s, winning India the match and the series 3-0, which led to lots of criticism of Deepti and Indian team.

But the India all-rounder and team received lots of support as well, especially from MCC, the custodians of laws, who moved the dismissal from ‘unfair play’ to run out in the rule book.
