Mohammed Siraj | GettyThe All-India Senior Selection Committee of the BCCI on Friday (September 30) named Mohammed Siraj as replacement for injured Jasprit Bumrah for the remainder of the three-match T20I series against South Africa.

Bumrah has sustained a back injury and is currently under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team.

Bumrah didn’t feature in the first T20I against South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday (September 28) and a day later it was reported by news agency PTI that he has suffered a serious back stress fracture injury which will keep him out of action for at least four to six months.

The ace pacer has reportedly been ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 as well. Having missed out on the Asia Cup 2022 due to back injury, he made his comeback to the Indian team against Australia last week in the second T20I, which was held in Nagpur. But after playing the last two T20Is, Bumrah again got injured and now he will have to be out action for a considerable amount of time.

Talking about Siraj, the right-arm pacer has represented India in five T20Is, 10 ODIs and 13 Tests so far. His last T20I appearance was against Sri Lanka in Dharamsala on February 27, 2022. In five T20Is, he has picked up five wickets at an economy rate of 10.45.
