Former Indian pacer and commentator, RP Singh, has lashed out at the critics of KL Rahul over his strike rate in T20 cricket while hailing the star batter for his game-awareness. He will be soon seen leading the Indian team in the upcoming T20I series against South Africa, starting on June 9.

Rahul has been scoring runs consistently for Team India and in the IPL as well. Even in the IPL 2022, the right-hander amassed 616 runs in 15 innings with the help of two centuries for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), but he was still heavily criticized for his strike rate.

Ahead of the series, the former cricketer said that Rahul is a technically sound batter, and his ability to pick bowlers is also impressive, but it is unfair to criticize the star batter for his strike rate.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, RP Singh said: “KL Rahul is technically very sound. He has game-awareness as he picks the bowlers against whom he can take chances on a given day. If he gets out for a run-a-ball 25, we'd say that he played like Manish Pandey does. But he ticks all the boxes because he protects his wicket and knows when to accelerate.”

Meanwhile, former Indian wicketkeeper-batter, Parthiv Patel, said that Rahul is the only player who has the ability to score a century in T20 cricket, as he slammed his critics for his strike rate.

Patel said at a show on Cricbuzz: “KL Rahul is the only player who can score a century in 20 overs despite starting slowly. If you are able to score 100 runs off 60 balls, it means that you've read the game well and know how to pace your innings.”

He signed off by saying, “You won't see KL Rahul hit unorthodox shots that often. He plays pure cricketing shots and it's all an extension of his defense. From his defense to his drive and its extension over the covers.”
