Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has started his preparations for the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa. The right-hander gave a glimpse of his batting to his fans by sharing a video on his official Twitter account.
Team India is all set to lock horns against South Africa. The first game will be played on 9th June in Delhi followed by the second and third games on 12th and 14th June in Cuttack and Vishakhapatnam respectively. The fourth and fifth match is slated to take place on the 17th and 19th of June in Rajkot and Bengaluru.
Although Iyer failed to take his team to glory in the recently concluded IPL 2022, he had a decent campaign as a batter. The KKR skipper scored 401 runs in the league including three half-centuries.
During India’s last T20I assignment against Sri Lanka, Iyer was awarded Player of the Series. He batted at No.3 in the absence of Virat Kohli and tonked three consecutive half-centuries.
With the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, and Dinesh Karthik all in the mix, the series will hold extreme importance for Iyer as he would be looking to cement his place in the side for the T20 World Cup 2022. Notably, he failed to find a place in the Indian squad for T20 World Cup 2021 and travelled with the team as a reserve.
Taking to his official Twitter account on Sunday (5th June), Iyer posted a video of himself batting in the nets. He seemed to be in good touch as he middled almost every ball. He captioned the video: “Back to the grind”
