The Indian squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa at home was announced on May 22, 2022, by the BCCI.
India is scheduled to play give T20Is against South Africa at home from June 9 to June 19. The matches will be played across India at venues like New Delhi, Cuttack, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, and Bengaluru and will have 100% crowd capacity in the stadiums.
Therefore, the BCCI has decided to pick an entirely fresh Indian squad with many new faces getting a chance to represent the country at the top level. Many have been rewarded for their performances in the latest IPL 2022 as well as their past outings for the Indian team.
With Rohit Sharma being rested ahead of the England tour, a new captain for the T20I matches against South Africa was also named.
KL Rahul was named captain of the T20I squad with Rishabh Pant being named the vice-captain.
Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik made their comeback to the Indian team, while Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik got their maiden call-up to the national team.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya and Venkatesh Iyer made up the batting unit, while Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Akshar Patel and Ravi Bishnoi made up the spin attack.
The pace attack will be led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, and Avesh Khan apart from the two new callups.
