New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel recalled getting smashed out of the ground as a net bowler by former India batter Virender Sehwag. He shared the memory in a tweet after being congratulated by Sehwag for picking up 10 wickets in an innings.
On Saturday (December 4), Ajaz became the third cricketer to take ten wickets in an innings after Jim Laker and Anil Kumble. Sehwag was among those who congratulated the spinner for a rare achievement.
“One of the most difficult things to achieve in the game. 10 wickets in an innings. A day to remember for the rest of your life, #AjazPatel. Born in Mumbai, creating history in Mumbai. Congratulations on the historic achievement," posted Sehwag.
Responding to the tweet, Ajaz replied, "Thank you @virendersehwag, funny story I still remember you smashing me out of the ground at the outer oval at Eden Park when I came in as a net bowler."
Sehwag ended the conversation by reminding Ajaz that times change and called his achievement 'extra-ordinary'.
"Waqt ki aadat hai, badalta zaroor hai (It’s a habit of time that it changes). What you have achieved in Mumbai is extra-ordinary so much so that India ki jeet se jyada aapke charche hain. May you achieve ever more success and good luck," he tweeted.
India had toured New Zealand in 2009 and they had won the three-match Test series by 1-0, and five-match ODI series by 3-1. New Zealand were the winners of two-match T20I series by 2-0.
