Indian captain Virat Kohli was left amused and dejected at the on-field umpires after Ross Taylor was awarded runs despite making no contact with the ball while playing a delivery against Akshar Patel.
The incident happened on the 3rd ball of the 16th over of New Zealand's second innings. Ross Taylor faced up to Akshar Patel and was throwing his bat at everything, in what Aakash Chopra called the ‘worst 8 balls ever played by a top-order batter in Tests’.
The ball by Akshar skid into Taylor who tried to swap at it, but it missed the inside edge of the bat. But the ball dipped and almost shaved the leg stump. Even the keeper Wriddhiman Saha was beaten by the sharp dip and turn and went for a boundary.
However, the on-field umpire gave it runs which were added to Ross Taylor’s tally and Virat Kohli was not amused at all by the folly of the umpires and was heard and seen talking about it in a video.
"Ye kya karte hain yaar ye log yaar. Main udhar aajata hu tum idhar aajao. (what are these people doing. They should come here and I will go and stand in their place.),” Kohli was heard saying, leaving Akshar Patel smiling.
