The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave an update on Indian openers Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill, as both of them were missing on the field when India came out to defend their 539 runs against New Zealand in the second Test in Mumbai.
India declared their second innings on 276/7 with Agarwal following his 150 in the first innings with a knock of 62. Shubman Gill also made 47 but was dismissed by Rachin Ravindra, giving the Kiwi bowler his first Test wicket.
Ajaz Patel finished with figures of 14/225, the best ever against India in Test cricket breaking the record of Sir Ian Botham, who had taken 13/106, which came in 1980 at the same venue, Wankhede Stadium.
Meanwhile, both Mayank and Shubman didn’t take the field when India came out for New Zealand’s second innings and BCCI has revealed that Mayank got hit on his right forearm during his knock and has been advised to rest as a precautionary measure.
On the other hand, Shubman Gill suffered a cut on his middle finger while fielding yesterday and hence will not be taking the field.
“UPDATE - Mayank Agarwal got hit on his right forearm while batting in the second innings. He has been advised not to take the field as a precautionary measure. Shubman Gill got a cut on his right middle finger while fielding yesterday. He will not be taking the field today,” BCCI tweeted.
New Zealand were dismissed for 62 in their first innings, which was their lowest Test total against India, lowest Test total at the Wankhede Stadium and lowest ever by a team in a Test in India.
