India's spinner Akshar Patel on Saturday (November 27) picked up a fifer against New Zealand in the first innings of the Kanpur Test. It was his fifth five-wicket haul in only four Test matches, after making his debut earlier this year.
Akshar picked Ross Taylor as his first wicket and then dismissed Henry Nicholls, Tom Latham, Tom Blundell, and Tim Southee to complete a fifer. He ended the first innings with a figure of 62/5 in 34 overs.
Veteran off-spinner R Ashwin asked his teammate Akshar to share how he manages to find an outside edge, while his delivery goes past the bat without making contact with the bat.
“One thing I really liked today and I want to ask that now. That set-up for Ross Taylor where that one ball turned only a bit. When I turn the ball, it goes past the bat, but in your case, it takes the edge. That is what I want to learn from you. Want the ball to take the edge and land in his (KS Bharat) gloves," said Ashwin on BCCI.tv.
Akshar responded to him and said, “You spin the ball too much and that's why it goes past the bat (laughs). My ball doesn't turn that much so it is enough to take the edge.”
