The first of the two-Test matches between India and New Zealand began in Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Both the teams are coming fresh off a T20I series in which the Men in Blue won 3-0.
Stand-in Indian skipper Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and chose to bat first. Shreyas Iyer for India and Rachin Ravindra for New Zealand made their Test debuts.
India started off decently but lost Mayank Agarwal for 13 runs. Then after a half-century partnership between Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara, the Saurashtra batter was dismissed by Tim Southee for 26 runs.
Gill completed his fourth fifty and then soon got out to Kyle Jamieson, who then accounted for Rahane (35), picking three out of four Indian wickets to fall on day one. Shreyas Iyer showed great composure and grit on a pitch with low bounce and some turn for the spinners.
He remained unbeaten on 75 at the stumps on day one, adding 113* runs for the 5th wicket with Ravindra Jadeja, who is not out on 50, as India made 258/4 on day one.
During the course of the match, the cameraperson caught a fan talking on his phone with his mouthful of something. This fan was in the stadium with another person and was even shown on the big screen, to which both waved.

However, the moment was made even funnier by former India opener Wasim Jaffer, who used his quick wit by adding a collage to the image of the fan with a mouthful of pan masala.
He chose a dialogue from movie ‘Phir Hera Pheri’, in which actor Paresh Rawal’s character says “Arre, munh mein se supari nikal kar bat kar re baba. (remove the supari from your mouth and then talk).”
