India pacer Mohammed Siraj was not a part of the playing XI for the second T20I against New Zealand in Ranchi on November 19, 2021. Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, reasoned that the Hyderabad pacer had to be left out due to an injury.

Harshal Patel was handed his India debut in place of Siraj, while New Zealand made three changes to their playing XI, bringing in Adam Milne, Jimmy Neesham, and Ish Sodhi.

It was later revealed by the BCCI that Siraj had suffered a web split in his left hand during the first T20I in Jaipur where he went for 39 runs in 4 fours, picking up 1 wicket.

"Siraj got a web split on his left hand while fielding on his own bowling in the 1st T20I in Jaipur. The BCCI medical team is closely monitoring his progress," said BCCI in a statement.

India won the toss in Ranchi and chose to bowl first.
