Arshdeep Singh defended 10 runs in the last over in fifth T20I | GettyIndia pacer Arshdeep Singh was tasked to defend 10 runs in his last over during the fifth T20I against Australia in Bangalore on Sunday (December 3).

Before the final over, Arshdeep had already conceded 37 runs in his three overs and was feeling the pressure. However, the left-arm quick didn’t let his team down as he got the prized scalp of Matthew Wade (22 off 15) and gave away only three runs, helping the hosts restrict the visitors to 154/8 in the chase of 161.

After scripting India’s six-run victory, Arshdeep said he thought he would be the 'culprit' of the game before delivering the final over.

"I guess, for the big part of the game. For almost 19 overs, I was thinking that I gave away too many runs, and I'd be the culprit of the game. But God gave me another chance and I believed in myself and thanks to God that I defended it and thanks to the staff as well, who believed in," said Arshdeep while speaking to JioCinema.

Reflecting on the last over, the 24-year-old said there was nothing going through his mind while also adding that skipper Suryakumar Yadav gave him confidence.

"To be honest, nothing was going through my mind. Surya bhai told me that whatever happens, happens and credit goes to our batters as well. They gave us a really good total here on a tricky wicket and we had a cushion of extra 15 to 20 runs. And credit goes to them as well," he added.

Arshdeep Singh admitted that his performance in the series was below-par and he needs to perform better in the future.

"I think it was just a par series for me personally. I need to rethink and perform even better in the future. I will take all the learnings from this series. The bowling wasn't near par, according to the standards of the Indian team, but a lot of lessons learnt but I will come back from the mistakes," he remarked.
