After his impressive exploits in the IPL 2023 season, Rinku Singh was rewarded a place in India’s T20I squad for the tour of Ireland. Since then, he hasn’t looked back. In fact, the southpaw has strengthened selection claims in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad with his finishing abilities.
Rinku is currently featuring in the five-T20I series against Australia at home. In the opening match, he played a crucial cameo of 22* in 14 balls to take India over the line while chasing a massive target of 209 at Vizag.
In the second T20I at Thiruvananthapuram, the left-hander produced another quickfire knock of 31* in 9 balls while he didn’t get a chance to bat in the third game at Guwahati. He slammed 46 off 29 balls in the penultimate T20I at Raipur to script India’s series-clinching 20-run victory.
After the game, Rinku Singh interacted with teammate Jitesh Sharma for bcci.tv and attributed his composure in high-pressure moments to the IPL experience.
"Well I have been playing for a long time. I have been playing in the IPL for 5-6 years now. So, that has given me the confidence. I back myself, try to keep myself calm," Rinku said while speaking to Jitesh, who scored 35 off 19 balls in the fourth T20I.
The duo of Rinku and Jitesh added 56 runs for the fifth wicket, which helped India rack up a highly competitive 174/9 on the board.
Jitesh admitted feeling immense pressure when he came out in the middle and praised Rinku's calm demeanor in challenging situations.
"It didn't look like that this was your (Rinku) first series. I was under a lot of pressure when I can in to bat, you were so calm, picking and choosing the ball to hit," Jitesh said.
The wicketkeeper-batter expressed gratitude to Rinku for helping him in maintaining composure. "You kept telling me to take it easy and not to take pressure," Jitesh stated.
When asked about the secret of his massive sixes, Rinku attributed it to his consistent gym sessions. "I like lifting weights, which gives me the power," he said.
