IND v AUS 2023: Steve Smith errs while lauding Indian fans for their support as he mistakes Rajkot for Indore

India and Australia are playing third ODI at SCA stadium in Rajkot.

Steve Smith in Rajkot ODI | GettyIndia and Australia are clashing in the third and final ODI at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on September 27, 2023. India already leads the series 2-0 having won in Mohali and Indore.

This third encounter saw the returns of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj into the Indian playing XI. This was because the first three were rested from the first two ODIs, while Siraj was unwell. India also included Washington Sundar in their playing XI, giving rest to R Ashwin.

Pat Cummins also returned for Australia and won the toss. He chose to bat first on a batting beauty pitch. Also included in Australia XI were Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell, and Tanveer Sangha.

Steve Smith was overwhelmed by the crowd who had gathered outside the team hotel. Both Smith and Warner are loved a lot by Indian fans thanks to their exploits in the IPL as well.

He clicked a couple of videos in which Indian fans can be seen holding up photos of him and opener David Warner at the team hotel as the Australian contingent boarded the bus to the ground.

Smith shared the videos on the Instagram story with a caption reading: “People loving it here in Indore”. He quickly shared another photo and admitted his mistake as he forgot the match was in Rajkot and not in Indore.

His new caption read: “My mistake. We are actually in Rajkot” with a facepalm emoji.
