Stand-in India captain KL Rahul displayed scintillating form in the ongoing second ODI against Australia in Indore’s Holkar Stadium on September 24, 2023. India is looking for a series win here as they enjoy a lead of 1-0, having won the first match in Mohali.
India batted first after Australia captain Steve Smith, leading the team in the absence of Pat Cummins, won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Despite losing Ruturaj Gaikwad early, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer hammered the Australian bowlers to all parts of the stadium. Shreyas Iyer hit a brilliant century, his third in ODIs and first since returning to the team post his back surgery.
Iyer was dismissed for 105 runs after adding 200 runs for the second wicket with Shubman Gill. Gill, who had scored a fifty in Mohali, made up for that lost chance and hammered 104 runs. This was his 6th century in ODIs and became the fastest to reach the milestone for India in just 35 innings.
KL Rahul came out to bat at no.4 and began showing intent from the get-go. His intent to score quick runs was visible when he struck a monstrous six off Cameron Green.
The incident took place in the 35th over of India’s innings. Green bowled 131kmph delivery into the slot. Rahul got into position and smoked it over deep mid-wicket, which sailed over the roof of the ground. The umpires had to ask for a new ball.
