India and Australia will clash in the second ODI of the three-match series on September 24, 2023, at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. India leads the series 1-0 after a terrific win in Mohali.
The Indian team will be captained by KL Rahul in this match as well, with the squad for this encounter remaining the same as the last one. With the series still up for grabs and considering their current form and the outcome of the Mohali game, India finds itself with an excellent opportunity to establish an unassailable 2-0 lead today.
The senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav will be returning to the side for the third ODI in Rajkot. This means Indore ODI might be the final opportunity for players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav to make a lasting impression.
Shreyas, in particular, is eager to find his form after missing out on a flat track in the previous match. The bowling attack looked good with Mohammad Shami taking a fifer and R Ashwin bowling well on his ODI comeback.
But in the second ODI, India will be without the services of Jasprit Bumrah, as the pacer has flown back home to be with his family. The BCCI granted him permission for the short break and the fast bowler will be back with the squad for the third and final ODI, which will be played on September 27.
In his absence, the BCCI named Mukesh Kumar as his replacement for the second match.
“Jasprit Bumrah did not travel with the team to Indore for the 2nd ODI against Australia. He has gone to visit his family and was given a short break by the team management. Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has joined the team as Bumrah's replacement for the 2nd ODI. Bumrah will join the team for the final ODI in Rajkot,” BCCI posted on social media platform X.
