Australia are battling injury concerns ahead of the three-T20I tour of India and, thus, they have made several changes to their squad.
Earlier, veteran opener David Warner wasn’t picked for the tour to manage his workload prior to the T20 World Cup 2022. Now, the likes of Mitchell Starc (knee), Mitchell Marsh (ankle) and Marcus Stoinis (side) have joined Warner on the sidelines with injuries. Taking their place in the touring party are Nathan Ellis, Daniel Sams and Sean Abbott.
While the injuries are reportedly minor, the Australian team management doesn’t want to take risk with the T20 World Cup around the corner. The Men in Yellow are the defending T20 World Cup champions and they will begin their title defence at home against New Zealand on October 22.
Marsh and Stoinis sustained the injuries during Australia’s recently-concluded ODI series against Zimbabwe whereas Starc got ruled out late after a knee scan on Wednesday (September 14).
The revised Australia squad will depart for India on Thursday (September 15).
The three-match T20I series will get underway on September 20 in Mohali, followed by the games in Nagpur and Hyderabad on September 23 and September 25 respectively.
Australia squad for India T20Is: Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Aaron Finch (c), Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Kane Richardson, Daniel Sams, Steve Smith, Matthew Wade, Adam Zampa.
