Star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya is fully fit and has been cleared to play in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, starting June 13 in Dharamsala.
According to a PTI report, Hardik has been given medical clearance by the Sports Science team at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE).
Hardik, who missed several IPL 2026 matches for Mumbai Indians (MI) due to back spasms, had reported to the CoE in Bengaluru for fitness assessment on June 2.
"Hardik was on a holiday abroad before he checked in at the CoE on June 2. Over the next five days, he did several match simulations and even bowled (full quota of) 10 overs," a BCCI source told the news agency.
"There has been no discomfort and the information is that his fitness data for various parameters has been okayed by Strength and Conditioning coaches at the CoE," the source added.
Addressing the media after India’s win over Afghanistan in the one-off Test, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak had said that although he doesn't have an update on Pandya's fitness status, he believed the all-rounder was doing fine.
Hardik Pandya’s unique ability to bowl at good speed and his explosive finishing make him a vital asset for Team India in white-ball cricket.
The most relieving aspect is Pandya bowling his full 10-over quota in match simulations, indicating that he is physically primed for the rigors of 50-over cricket.
Hardik Pandya was initially scheduled to directly link up with the team in Dharamsala. It is unclear if he will stick to the original plan or join the team earlier in Chandigarh for a training session under lights.
Meanwhile, veteran opener Rohit Sharma is also at the CoE to undergo a mandatory fitness assessment regarding his hamstring niggle. His availability for the Afghanistan ODI series depends entirely on receiving formal fitness clearance from the board's medical team.
