Run out is one of the most unfortunate ways to get out in the game of cricket. It shows that your judgment of going for a run needs more work or you plainly suck at calling for a run. However sometimes, run outs happen due to unforeseen circumstances also.
One such circumstance happened on the final day of the 3rd Test between South Africa and New Zealand. New Zealand had South Africans under pressure in their second innings, having dismissed Dean Elgar early in the innings. However, things got more unfortunate for the Proteas in the 12th over of the match, as score became 25/2 in the funniest way possible.
Hashim Amla played a straight defensive shot off a delivery from Neil Wagner and immediately called non striker Theunis de Bruyn for a run. To his dismay, De Bruyn was ball watching and by the time he heard the call and started to run, Amla found himself in the way of De Bruyn's path. Both the batsmen collided and Amla hit the ground pretty hard.
On the other hand, Kiwi skipper quickly picked the ball and
threw at the striker's end and keeper BJ Watling made no mistakes and
demolished the stumps, with De Bruyn way short of his ground.
