India v Australia: The Top 5 Batsmen With Most Runs From Fours And Sixes In An Innings

A look at the top 5 batsmen with most runs from fours and sixes in an innings in the India-Australia ODI history.

With the 4-match Test series between India and Australia currently underway, there is likely to be a lot of fantastic boundaries and sixes to be on offer. Both the sides have some explosive and classy batsmen who know ways to crunch boundaries at will.

As we wait for this Test series to progress, here is a good time to look back at the top 5 batsmen with most runs from fours and sixes in an innings in the India-Australia ODI history.

Rohit Sharma - 144 runs out of 209 at Bangalore, Nov 2, 2013:

In his epic innings of 209 off 158 balls against Australia at Bangalore in 2013, he scored a whopping 144 of those runs in fours and sixes. This was the 7th and final ODI of the series and India needed to win the match to clinch the series. Rohit struck a record-breaking 16 sixes along with 12 fours in his sensational knock that knocked the stuffing out of Australia and helped India achieve a famous win.

Sachin Tendulkar - 100 runs out of 175 Hyderabad (Deccan), Nov 5, 2009:

This was one of the Little Master's best ever knocks as it came in a must-win match for India in the 5th ODI of the series at Hyderabad while chasing a mammoth Australian target of 351. Sachin was impeccable that night and struck a terrific 175 that included 19 fours and 4 sixes. He scored an impressive 100 runs out of his 175 in boundaries and sixers. Unfortunately, despite this brilliant effort, India lost the match by 3 runs.

Rohit Sharma - 94 runs out of 171 at Perth, Jan 12, 2016:

This will go down as one of the finest hundreds by Rohit Sharma ever. Rohit was all class and struck the ball beautifully to all parts of the ground in the 1st ODI of the 2016 series at Perth. While the others struggled, Rohit scored a magnificent unbeaten 171 that included 13 scintillating fours and 7 sixes. Thus, he collected 94 runs out of his 171 in fours and sixes. This majestic knock, though, was not enough to contain Australia who won the match by 5 wickets.

Rohit Sharma - 92 runs out of 141 at Jaipur, Oct 16, 2013:

Rohit appears a third time in this list and this one was as spectacular a hundred as they come. Chasing an improbable target of 360 in the 2nd ODI of the series at Jaipur, Rohit was absolutely spectacular and collected his runs with ease. He ended up taking India to a stunning victory with a breathtaking unbeaten 141 with 17 fours and 4 sixes. What's notable here is that he scored 92 runs out his 141 in just fours and sixes - so just 49 of those runs came in singles and twos. An absolutely incredible performance.

George Bailey - 88 runs out of 156 Nagpur, Oct 30, 2013:

In the 6th ODI of the series at Nagpur, Australia managed to put on 350 on the board courtesy their then captain George Bailey's superb 156. The wicket was flat and Bailey punished the Indian bowlers easily. He struck 13 fours and 6 sixes in his knock, thus getting 88 of his runs from boundaries and sixes. Unfortunately, Australia lost this tense match by 6 wickets.
