England and India clashed in the fifth T20I on July 11, 2026, in Southampton’s Rose Bowl. Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to field first.
However, the decision proved to be a horribly wrong one, as despite Phil Salt getting out for 6 runs, Jos Buttler and Harry Brook hammered the Indian team bowlers to all parts of the Rose Bowl. Buttler and Brook added a record partnership of 233 runs for the second wicket.
Jos Buttler made 131 in 64 balls with 12 fours and 8 sixes, while Brook remained unbeaten on 95 with 8 sixes and 4 fours, as England posted 257/3 in 20 overs against India. Prince Yadav (60) and Axar Patel (63) were the most expensive bowlers for India.
In response, India lost Abhishek Sharma for 3, but Sanju Samson (27) and Ishan Kishan tried to counterattack. But England's bowlers kept taking Indian wickets at the right intervals. Kishan made 56 with 7 fours and 2 sixes, and Tilak Varma made 53 with 3 fours and 4 sixes.
Captain Shreyas Iyer tried to take the attack to England's bowlers, scoring 28 runs. But the ask was too much for India, as they managed only 201/8 in 20 overs and lost the game by 56 runs in the end. Sam Curran was the pick of the England bowlers with 3/36. Jos Buttler won the Player of the Match, while Harry Brook received the Player of the Series award.
England won this match and blanked India 4-0 in the five-match T20i series, with one game getting rained out. With this win, England also went to the no. 1 spot in the ICC T20I team rankings, dethroning India.
The cricket fraternity was stunned at the performance by England, which routed three-time T20 World champions India.
