For the fourth T20I against England in Bristol, former India player Parthiv Patel has proposed a change to the Men in Blue starting lineup. Given that India had six left-handers in their top seven, he believed Sanju Samson ought to be included.
On Tuesday, July 7, India's third Twenty20 International against England in Nottingham ended in a devastating 125-run defeat. They were chasing a target of 202 runs when they were bowled out for a pitiful 76.
Parthiv was questioned about Samson's potential return to the Indian starting lineup and where in the batting order he could fit in.
"I feel he should be played because we have been saying from the first match that you cannot have six left-handers in the top seven, in the top eight (in this game), because Harshit Rana came at No. 7.
If I keep myself in that dressing room and if I have to make a team, the focus goes on Tilak Varma, but he is India's vice-captain. So, I would want you to play Sanju Samson in place of Shivam Dube. Then the sixth bowling option won't remain. However, you will go with five out-and-out main bowlers," Parthiv said on JioHotStar.
Shivam Dube batted at No. 8 and scored two runs off four balls and went for 10 runs in the only over he bowled in the third T20I against England.
Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and Shreyas Iyer can be used interchangeably by Team India from Nos. 3 to 5, according to Parthiv Patel, who also stated that the Kerala batter will not be opening again.
"You will have to make Sanju Samson bat in the middle. He can also come at No. 3. Then Ishan Kishan can come in the middle, and Shreyas Iyer can come at No. 5. You can keep Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and Shreyas Iyer from Nos. 3 to 5. India can think in that direction," he said.
After three straight failures, Sanju Samson was benched for the second and third T20Is against England. In the first match of the series against England, he scored a single run off seven deliveries, while in the two T20Is against Ireland, he achieved five and zero.
